When the weather is hot, stay cool and drink plenty of fluids to prevent heat-related illness. In cold weather, wear layers of clothing to help keep in body heat. If power outages are prevalent in your area, I suggest purchasing a Mr.Buddy heater to help keep warm. This small and simple heater runs off of a small bottle of propane.

Keep your cell phone charged up during storm warnings while you still have power

To keep your electronics safe and powered on, it’s important to make sure they are regularly charged. To do this, you should plug in your device when it is at or below 20% battery life. Be sure to charge it in a cool, dry place and avoid overcharging it. Following these steps will help keep your electronics safe and charged. In the event your power goes out, make sure to have a car charger in your vehicle as an option if you see your phone’s power level depleting.

Have a family plan during a power outage

It’s always good to have a discussion with your family in advance and make a plan in case the power and cell service goes out. For instance if your kids are at school, who will pick them up? A meeting place if everyone is away from home and not able to get back to the house? There are so many variables, but the better prepared you are in advance the more you can avoid added stress or worry.

Take advantage of the family not focused on any electronics and play games, reminisce about good times, or make new adventurous plans. Lastly, if you feel unsafe, contact your local emergency services for assistance.
